The 2 days tour Marrakech to Fes takes you through the High Atlas Mountains, Ait Benhaddou, Ouarzazate, Dades Valley. By evening, you’ll arrive in Merzouga for a camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes and an overnight stay in a desert camp under the stars.
The next day you’ll wake up to see the sunrise over the dunes and breakfast and shower at camp. Then, continue to the Ziz Valley, and the Middle Atlas Mountains. Pass cedar forests and wild monkeys before arriving in Fes by evening. This tour offers fast but rich desert experience between the two imperial cities.
During the summer months ( June, July, and August) expect hot and dry weather throughout the journey. Daytime temperatures can reach 40–45°C (104–113°F) in desert areas like Merzouga, while nights are warm but more comfortable. Light, breathable clothing, sun protection, and plenty of water are essential.
This has a long distance in just two days. Due to the tight schedule, there’s limited time to explore every attraction in depth. Instead, the focus is on major highlights and ensuring a smooth, efficient journey.
On the first day, the goal is to reach Merzouga in time for the camel trek and sunset over the dunes. Therefore, expect a long drive with fewer extended stops, especially in the afternoon. The route is scenic and varied, but designed to maximize your desert experience without missing the sunset in Erg Chebbi.
The 2 days tour Marrakech to Fes begins early in Marrakech as you cross the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, enjoy panoramic stops before arriving at the famous Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its ancient kasbah and film history.
After exploring this iconic site, continue to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” Then, drive via the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley, pausing briefly for photos. In the late afternoon, reach Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Here, we ‘ll start to ride a camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes, arriving at your camp just in time for a breathtaking sunset. Enjoy a traditional dinner, local music, and a night under the stars.
The next day, in the early morning we recommend you to wake up and catch the magical sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, return by camel or 4×4 to Merzouga village and begin the adventure to Fes. We’ll make the first stops in Ziz Valley, surrounded by palm groves and rocky cliffs.
Then, we pass via Midelt, in the Middle Atlas Mountains, before arriving at the cedar forests of Azrou, where you may spot wild Barbary macaques. Continue through the alpine town of Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland” for its European-style architecture. You will arrive in Fes by evening, concluding your memorable desert adventure.
Our 2 days from Marrakech to Fes was fantastic. The highlight of the trip was our night in the desert. Riding camels into the golden dunes, watching the sunset, and spending the night under a sky full of stars was simply magical. The desert camp was cozy, clean, and had a warm atmosphere with delicious food and traditional music.
