During the Fes to Marrakech Sahara Tour, be prepared for hot weather, particularly during the summer months of June, July, and August, when temperatures in the Sahara can soar during the day. Light, breathable clothing, sun protection, and plenty of water are essential. On the first day, expect a long drive from Fes to Merzouga, covering a significant distance across the Middle Atlas Mountains, cedar forests of Azrou, and the Ziz Valley.
Although the journey takes most of the day, it includes scenic stops for photos, rest, and meals, making the experience more comfortable and engaging. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at the edge of the dunes, where you’ll enjoy a camel ride into the desert and spend an unforgettable night under the stars at a desert camp.
After breakfast in Fes, we begin our journey south, passing through the beautiful Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is Ifrane, a charming alpine style city often referred to as the Switzerland of Morocco. We then continue to Azrou, where you may see a wild monkeys in the cedar forest. After a lunch stop somwhere on the way, we cross the dramatic Ziz Valley, known for its lush palm groves and kasbahs. By late afternoon, we reach the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. Here, you’ll enjoy a sunset camel trek across the golden dunes during sunset, arriving at your desert camp for a magical night under the stars, accompanied by Berber music and a tasty dinner.
After waking up to catch a beautiful sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast, shower then we return a by camel ride or 4×4 transfer. We depart for Rissani, a historic town famous for its traditional souk and as the former capital of the Tafilalt region. After exploring Rissani, we head toward the Todra Gorges, a spectacular canyon popular with hikers and photographers. You’ll have time to walk along the river between towering rock walls before continuing to the Dades Valley, also known as the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, where you’ll have dinner and spend the night in a local hotel overlooking the nature.
Our last day of the 3 days desert trip from Fes , we drive to Rose Valley and past Skoura’s palm groves before arriving in Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” Here, you may visit the Atlas Film Studios (optional) or continue directly to the UNESCO Site of Ait Benhaddou, a striking fortified village and filming location for many famous movies and series. After lunch and some exploration, we begin our scenic ascent over the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m). Enjoy panoramic views and photo stops before descending into the Red city of MARRAKECH, where your desert adventure ends.
A wonderful 3 days tour from Fes! The route was full of amazing scenery from the Middle Atlas mountains and palm valleys to the breathtaking dunes of Merzouga. Spending the night in the desert was a highlight, and the camel ride at sunset was unforgettable. Our driver was friendly, flexible, and made the journey fun and comfortable.
