On this 2 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Sahara, you’ll experience tthe desert in a short time. First, cross the amazing High Atlas Mountains. Then, visit ancient kasbahs and lush valleys along the way. By sunset, ride a camel through golden dunes. Finally, spend the night in a desert camp under the stars. It’s the perfect quick escape into Morocco’s Sahara.
Please keep in mind that the 2 days desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga involves long drives each day (8–10 hours), and during summer, temperatures can be very high, especially in the desert regions. If you have more time, we highly recommend choosing a longer itinerary (3 or 4 days) to explore key sites along the way like Ait Ben Haddou, Todra Gorges, and Dades Valley at a more relaxed pace.
2 days tour from MARRAKECH to MERZOUGA begins early in the morning as you depart Marrakech, heading southeast through the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, you’ll enjoy several photo stops to take in breathtaking panoramic views and traditional Berber villages. Shortly after, you’ll arrive at the stunning Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its historic kasbahs and appearance in many famous films.
After a guided visit and some free time, the journey continues through Ouarzazate and the beautiful Draa Valley, home to Morocco’s longest river and endless stretches of palm groves and mud-brick villages. Following lunch, the route takes you further east past the small town of Alnif, known for its desert landscapes and fossils.
From there, you’ll head toward Rissani, the gateway to the Sahara, where you’ll get a glimpse of the local date markets and Saharan culture. Finally, you’ll reach Merzouga by late afternoon. Upon arrival, you’ll switch to camels for a magical sunset trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes. Afterward, you’ll arrive at your desert camp where you’ll enjoy dinner, traditional music, and a peaceful night under the stars.
On the second and final day of your 2 days sahara trip from Marrakech, the camp team will wake you early to see a magical desert sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi. A truly unforgettable moment. Afterward, you’ll enjoy a traditional breakfast, followed by time to freshen up and shower before departure.
Soon after, the return journey to Marrakech begins. Along the way, you’ll pass through scenic landscapes, with several break stops for rest, meals, and photo opportunities at panoramic viewpoints. Finally, by evening, you’ll arrive back in Marrakech, marking the end of your desert adventure.
Our family had an amazing 2 days trip from Marrakech to the Erg Chebbi dunes. Even though the trip covered a lot of distance, the beautiful scenery along the way made every moment enjoyable. We drove through the High Atlas Mountains, visited the historic Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, and passed charming Berber villages that gave us a glimpse into authentic Moroccan life.
