3 Days Marrakech to Merzouga Sahara trip is a short getaway to experience the  southern of Morocco. First, cross the majestic High Atlas Mountains via  Tizi n’Tichka pass. Then, explore the ancient fortified village of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO  Site. Afterward, continue tothe cinematic town of Ouarzazate.

As the journey unfolds, venture deeper into the Draa Valley. Next, pass through the volcanic landscapes near Alnif and Rissani. Gradually, the scenery shifts toward the  dunes of Erg Chebbi.

The highlight of the trip, however, is the camel trek into the heart of Erg Chebbi. Here, enjoy a breathtaking sunset and spend the night in a traditional desert camp under the STARS.

Finally, enjoy a scenic drive back to Marrakech, with several panoramic stops and cultural insights along the way. In just three days, this tour offers an unforgettable blend of adventure, culture, and stunning landscapes.

What to Expect about the 3 days desert trip from Marrakech

Summer in southern Morocco  ( june , July and august ) is typically hot and dry, especially in the desert areas where daytime temperatures can reach up to 45°C (113°F), while nights remain warm but more comfortable. It’s important to dress in light, breathable clothing and stay well hydrated.

The tour includes scenic mountain passes, historical sites, and a camel trek through the dunes of Erg Chebbi, followed by a magical night in a desert camp. Be prepared for a long drive on the third day as you travel back to Marrakech approximately 9 to 10 hours with several  rest stops along the way. Despite the distance, the varied landscapes and cultural richness make the journey rewarding and memorable.

Itinerary

Day 1Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley ( 5 hr 26 min - 330.3 km)

In the morning at 8:30 am from your hotel or riad, we depart  and travel through the High Atlas Mountains across the beautiful  Tizi n’Tichka pass. Stop at panoramic viewpoints and visit the famous Ait Benhaddou, a  World Heritage Site where so many movies were filmed ( GLADIATOR , GAME OF TRANS ) . Continue to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” then drive to the Valley of Roses and reach Dades Valley, where you’ll spend the night in a charming guesthouse with dinner and breakfast included overlooking the nature and green valley.

Day 2Dades – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga Erg Chebbi (4 hr 3 min - 265.2 km)

After having breakfast in your hotel around 9:00 am,  we’ll head to the spectacular Todra Gorge, where you’ll have time to walk through the dramatic canyon carved by the Todra River. Then, we pass through Erfoud ( THE CITY OF FOSSILS ) and arrive in Merzouga, where you’ll begin a camel trek into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Enjoy a magical sunset in the Sahara and spend the night in a traditional desert camp with dinner and music under the stars.

Day 3Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Draa Valley – Anti-Atlas – Marrakech ( 8 hr 14 min - 555.6 km)

Today, you’ll have the opportunity to wake and see a stunning desert sunrise, followed by breakfast and a camel ride (or 4×4 transfer) back to Merzouga village. Begin the return journey via an alternative and scenic route: pass through Rissani, Alnif, and the expansive Draa Valley with its lush palm groves.

Cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains and drive through Agdz and Ouarzazate before arriving back in Marrakech by evening. The long but rewarding drive is filled with changing landscapes and photo opportunities. W’ll get to Marrakech by evening and transfer you to your hotel or Riad. End of the 3 days desert trip.
