During your desert adventure thats starts in Marrakech and ends in Fes, it’s important to note that weather conditions vary by season. You can expect very warm to hot temperatures during the summer months, especially in the Sahara, while winters can bring chilly nights, particularly in the desert and mountain areas. On the last day of the trip, prepare for a long drive from Merzouga to Fes, which typically takes around 7–8 hours including scenic stops.
If your holiday falls during summer, we highly recommend spending one night in the desert camp to enjoy the magical dunes and starlit sky, and the second night in a comfortable hotel with a pool in the Merzouga area. This combination offers a refreshing break from the heat and enhances your overall desert experience.
After breakfast at 8:30 am from your Hotel or Riad, you’ll begin your journey by crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, you’ll stop to explore the famous Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there, continue through Ouarzazate and pass the Valley of Roses before reaching the beautiful Dades Valley, where you’ll spend the night in a local hotel.
Following breakfast at 9:00 am, the adventure continues through the dramatic Dades Gorges views and visit to Monkey finger mountian. Then, drive toward the stunning Todra Gorges, where you’ll have time to walk and take in the scenery. In the afternoon, head toward the Sahara Desert. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you’ll ride a camel across the golden dunes to your desert camp. There, enjoy dinner and a night under the stars.
Today, we recommend you to wake up early to see a beautiful sunrise. Then after breakfast in the camp, the day is dedicated to exploring the Erg Chebbi region. You’ll visit Khamlia village for live Gnawa music, meet nomadic families, and pass by seasonal lakes and palm groves. Later, return to your accommodation either a second night in the camp or a comfortable hotel with a pool overlooking the dunes, especially recommended during the summer months.
After an early start, begin the long drive to Fes, passing through the scenic Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas Mountains. Along the way, stop in Midelt for lunch and take a short break in Ifrane, known as “the Switzerland of Morocco.” Finally, arrive in Fes by early evening, marking the end of your desert journey.
